#BoycottPuma Round 3: Puma Canada what’s up!

#Boycottpuma Round 3: Online Rally of Solidarity With Palestinians Ahead of PUMA Shareholders Meeting!

As the coronavirus pandemic spreads, Puma’s already deeply immoral support for Israel’s ever-expanding illegal settlements takes on a more sinister dimension.  Puma’s exclusive licensee in Israel, Delta, was listed in the UN database of complicit settlement companies. The UN considers all Israeli settlements in the occupied territory a war crime.

Puma is the main sponsor of the Israel Football Association (IFA), which includes teams in Israel’s illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.

We invite you to join us in ROUND 3 of Give Puma the Boot including specifically writing to Puma Canada.

Dear Mr. Maguire

As we mentioned in our email and registered letter to you in October 2019, we are still waiting for a response to the email sent to you on June 11, 2019.

We had appreciated your response to our earlier email, but it left several questions, thus our email back to you on June 11, 2019.  We still would ask for a response to the following:

Are you saying that there is no support of any kind that goes to the Israel Football Association (IFA)?  You mention that support does go to Israeli National Teams.  Which teams are these?  You also mention support to football club Hapoel Beer Sheva.  As well, you mention NO support goes to the Israeli Premier/Japanika League.  We would ask you to clarify and make a definitive statement that NO support has gone to the Israel Football Association.

The Israel Football Association has teams in Israeli settlement in occupied Palestine, which is part of the territory of the Palestinian affiliate.  This is occupied territory under international humanitarian law (the Fourth Geneva Convention).   The international call to PUMA is to withdraw support to the Israeli Football Association until it withdraws teams from these illegally occupied lands. If there has been no support to the Israel Football Association in any form from PUMA including through local distribution partners, we would welcome that news. It is not clear in your message that this is the case, so we would appreciate further information in this regard.  If PUMA is announcing its withdraw of funding from the Israel Football Association through your correspondence would you please make this clear, and also indicate if you will be making a public notification in this regard.

Puma shareholders should also know that supporting Israeli apartheid comes with costs!

A Puma attorney recently admitted to a Palestinian rights supporter that the #BoycottPuma campaign is making their lives “miserable.”

See the letter provided to the CEO of Puma from 200 Palestinian sports teams.  We provide this again to you, and ask you to take leadership to speak to the CEO and other leadership of Puma to insist that Puma to end its sponsorship of the Israel Football Association (IFA) due to its deep complicity in Israel’s violations of international law and Palestinian human rights.

Israel’s settlement enterprise and associated military checkpoints and walls force Palestinian families from their homes, limit access to clean water and impede travel to hospitals and clinics. Puma’s claim of a “devotion to universal equality” could not ring more hollow.

Sincerely,

the Canadian BDS Coalition
