Ronnen Harary is the co-founder of Spin Master, best-known for the creation of the kids’ show “Paw Patrol.” From the original creation of Earth Buddy to the acquisition of well-known brands such as Etch-A-Sketch and Rubik’s Cube, Spin Master markets a number of entertainment, toys and digital games, while remaining relatively unknown as a corporate entity.
The Ronnen Harary Foundation, registered as a Canadian charity in 2021, has provided over $2.3 million in 2021 and 2022 to a foreign government, specifically the “Israeli” Municipality of Jerusalem.
In a letter, dated June 26, 2024, Sharmila Khare, the Director General of the Compliance Division of the Charities Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency indicated that
While certain registered municipal and First Nations groups that are listed on our web page may be qualified donees, governments outside Canada are not.
Beyond this, in the audit documents related to the revocation of charity status of the Ne’eman Foundation of Canada, the CRA indicated in regard to donations to Jerusalem based Elad Ir David that
[to] strengthen the Jewish connection and create a Jewish majority in Arab neighbourhoods … [is] not [a] purpose the court have found to be charitable.
And according to the Canadian Jewish News of October 23, 2023
And that’s not all. His [Ronnen Harary’s] personal charity is buying new beds for the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem to boost capacity ahead of expected casualties. Meanwhile, the Canadian philanthropist has also personally driven boxes of socks and supplies to army bases all over Israel, and his charity is helping a Canadian-led operation sending a food truck to feed soldiers before they embark on what’s expected to be an unprecedented ground assault on the Gaza Strip against Hamas, including to rescue hostages.
The Canada Revenue Agency is clear that it is not considered charitable to support the armed forces of another country.
As the Canadian BDS Coalition, we urge the CRA to immediately review, audit and revoke the charitable status of the Ronnen Harary Foundation for its lack of charitable purpose — not to mention its direct involvement in funding and supporting the genocidal Israeli military. For the Canadian public, we urge you to boycott Spin Master products and inform your community about the connection to the genocidal Israeli regime.
