On October 28, the largest labour organization in Canada, the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) called for an end to arms shipments to Israel and voted to endorse Resolution ‘Gen-061’ by passing a resolution that calls on workers to refuse to handle weapons and military equipment destined for Israel.
This resolution declared trade, services and relationship with Israel “hot cargo”. It endorsed the Arms Embargo Now campaign and vowed to work with unions to make weapons and military equipment destined to Israel “hot cargo,” not to be touched by workers of conscience in line with the resolution and hot cargo declaration.
Delegates at the CLC 2026 convention earlier this year had already voted to cut ties with the Histadrut, a key component of our Hot Cargo Kills campaign
The Canadian BDS Coalition & International BDS Allies would like to congratulates and commends the work and advocacy by @labourforpalestine the Hot Cargo Kills campaign, @armsembargonowcanada , and all the organizers whose work led to this significant step in further isolating the genocidal state of Israel.
We support Labour for Palestine in their call:
These measures reflect the demand of Palestinian trade unions, the growing position of the labour movement, and the wide support of the Canadian public for sanctions against the state of Israel.
We call on CLC affiliates and local unions to put the hot cargo declaration into practice: support workers who refuse to handle military cargo, pressure Ottawa to end all arms exports to Israel, and build direct ties with Palestinian unions.
We vow to continue our work until a full Hot Cargo declaration is realized, and no Israeli goods, services, or institutional relationships are moved, worked or maintained by Canadian workers.
