Recently, there was indication that the Canadian BDS Coalition and International BDS Allies is supportive of violence; this is completely inaccurate. What the article may refer to, although did not specify, is the Coalition’s support of International Humanitarian Law, and particularly the right of resistance afforded under the Fourth Geneva Convention (1949) . Beyond this, supplementary amendments to the Fourth Geneva Convention under Protocol I (1977) further affirmed that the right to resist applies to situations including “armed conflicts in which peoples are fighting against colonial domination and alien occupation and against racist régimes in the exercise of their right of self-determination.” (Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I), June 8, 1977)
The Coalition supports the non-violent civil society movement of the Palestinian people and their allies in regard to boycott, divestment and sanctions.
The Coalition supports the principle that these non-violent punitive measures should be maintained until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law [1] by:
- Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall;
- Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and
- Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.
Thus, regardless of its national and/or geographic location, any company, organization or institution that is empowering Israeli settler colonization, war crimes, genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid is complicit in them, and accordingly is subject to the economic, academic, and cultural boycott, divestment and sanctions call.
Due to the direct US involvement in the Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people by sending troops, military equipment and also shielding Israel from accountability for its war crimes, the Coalition has called for a general economic boycott against the US, where attainable and possible. We also call for a similar boycott against countries that are complicit in this genocide, especially Britain, Germany and Canada.
The Coalition believes in the universality of human rights, and that the injustices that befell the Palestinian people should be rectified.
Zionism is a supremacist ideology which has created a settler colonial state in historic Palestine. Thus, the Coalition supports the establishment of a secular democratic State of Palestine in the historic land of Palestine with equality before the law for all citizens regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender.
To deny the right of the Palestinian people, under illegal occupation, to rights afforded to them under the Fourth Geneva Convention/International Law, is complicity with war crimes.

Récemment, des indications ont laissé entendre que la Canadian BDS Coalition and International BDS Allies soutenait la violence ; cette affirmation est totalement inexacte. Ce à quoi l’article faisait possiblement allusion — sans toutefois le préciser — est le soutien de la Coalition au droit international humanitaire, et en particulier au droit à la résistance reconnu par la quatrième Convention de Genève (1949). Par ailleurs, les amendements complémentaires à la quatrième Convention de Genève, introduits par le Protocole I (1977), ont confirmé que le droit à la résistance s’applique notamment aux situations de « conflits armés dans lesquels les peuples luttent contre la domination coloniale et l’occupation étrangère ainsi que contre les régimes racistes dans l’exercice de leur droit à disposer d’eux-mêmes » (Protocole additionnel aux Conventions de Genève du 12 août 1949 relatif à la protection des victimes des conflits armés internationaux (Protocole I), 8 juin 1977).
La Coalition soutient le mouvement non violent de la société civile — composé du peuple palestinien et de ses alliés — prônant le boycott, le désinvestissement et les sanctions.
La Coalition défend le principe selon lequel ces mesures punitives non violentes doivent être maintenues tant qu’Israël ne s’acquitte pas de son obligation de reconnaître le droit inaliénable du peuple palestinien à disposer de lui-même et ne se conforme pas pleinement aux préceptes du droit international [1], en :
- Mettant fin à l’occupation et à la colonisation de toutes les terres arabes ainsi qu’en démantelant le Mur ;
- Reconnaissant les droits fondamentaux des citoyen/citoyennes arabo-palestinien(ne)s d’Israël à une égalité pleine et entière ; et
- Respectant, protégeant et promouvant le droit des réfugiés palestiniens à retourner dans leurs foyers et sur leurs terres, conformément à la résolution 194 de l’ONU.
Ainsi, quelle que soit sa localisation nationale ou géographique, toute entreprise, organisation ou institution qui favorise la colonisation par des colons israéliens, les crimes de guerre, le génocide, le nettoyage ethnique ou l’apartheid, se rend complice de ces actes et fait, par conséquent, l’objet d’appels au boycott (économique, universitaire et culturel), au désinvestissement et aux sanctions.
En raison de l’implication directe des États-Unis dans le génocide israélien contre le peuple palestinien — par l’envoi de troupes et de matériel militaire, ainsi que par la protection d’Israël contre toute obligation de rendre des comptes pour ses crimes de guerre —, la Coalition a appelé à un boycott économique général des États-Unis, là où cela est réalisable et possible. Nous appelons également à un boycott similaire à l’encontre des pays complices de ce génocide, notamment la Grande-Bretagne, l’Allemagne et le Canada.
La Coalition croit en l’universalité des droits humains et estime que les injustices subies par le peuple palestinien doivent être réparées.
Le sionisme est une idéologie suprémaciste qui a donné naissance à un État colonial de peuplement en Palestine historique. Par conséquent, la Coalition soutient l’établissement d’un État palestinien démocratique et laïc sur la terre historique de Palestine, garantissant l’égalité devant la loi pour tous les citoyens/citoyennes, sans distinction de religion, d’appartenance ethnique ou de genre.
Nier au peuple palestinien, soumis à une occupation illégale, les droits qui lui sont reconnus par la Quatrième Convention de Genève et le droit international, constitue une complicité dans des crimes de guerre.
