Common Questions
Didn’t WSP close their office in Israel?
On September 1, “Globes”, an Israeli business newspaper, reported that “Canadian engineering consultants WSP leaving Israel.” The article stated that WSP claimed this “is part of an organizational change to close offices in small countries and that it will continue to support the projects to which it has committed, first and foremost the Tel Aviv metropolitan region Metro.” However, “Globes” noted that sources told them that it is more about “bowing to anti-Israel political pressure” than organizational changes. Notably, WSP has not made any announcements or put out any official statements about leaving Israel (and they did not respond to a journalists request for comments).
Despite this recent announcement from WSP and “Globes”, more is required from WSP. Closing its Israel office without ceasing all operations in occupied Palestinian territory is insufficient. If WSP continues to support the JLR in any way, whether or not they have an office, they remain active participants complicit in Israel’s unlawful occupation and apartheid. There is no evidence WSP is planning to end its participation and complicity in war crimes. You can read more on this in this press release.
What is WSP doing in Israel now?
It appears to be going on with ‘business as usual’. WSP currently has 10 jobs posted on jobMaster, an Israeli job platform. In September, they posted a position for a project manager for a “mega infrastructure project” in Jerusalem. Currently, they have a job listed in Jerusalem, which they describe as “An economist is needed for a budgetary control position in Jerusalem….[including] ongoing mega project budget management.” They are also posting on LinkedIn as if nothing has changed…for example:
