The evening commute along the Prince Philip Parkway was punctuated by chants of journalistic accountability on August 22, 2025, as a vocal group of activists held a loud and passionate protest outside the CBC Newfoundland headquarters.
The protest, held on the Friday evening was organized by local activists accusing the national public broadcaster of uncritically repeating the talking points of Israeli Genocidal Forces in its coverage of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Over the course of the past 23 months and in the years previously, the CBC has repeatedly buckled to Israeli lobby pressure, resulting in biased reporting that obscures the scale of the genocide while assisting the zionists in the dehumanisation of Palestinians.
Despite the vocal presence, the response from the corporation was one of complete silence. For the first time, unlike many morning protests held previously, a single CBC security guard was noted on the property. However, the guard remained inside his truck for the duration of the protest and did not interact with the demonstrators. Staff inside the building did not acknowledge the protest either and nobody from the CBC spoke with the protestors.
Adding to the demonstrators’ frustration was the absence of any other news media. The event, which aimed to critique media coverage, went entirely uncovered by any news outlets, local or otherwise, leaving the CBC protest itself as an unreported story.
